Dr. Hugh McLeod’s service to the Walton community began in 1982 when he started working as an orthopedic surgeon with Walton’s coaches. He provided strength and conditioning instruction to prevent injuries among Walton’s athletes and created Georgia’s first high school-based Sports Medicine program.
In recognition of his numerous contributions to Walton sports, the Sports Medicine program was renamed the Hugh McLeod MD Wellness Complex and Sports Medicine Center in 2001. Although Dr. McLeod passed away in 2011, his legacy lives on through his family. His wife, Leslie, and daughter, Lauren, have continued to support the wellness aspect of Dr. McLeod’s vision.
Leslie and Lauren McLeod also created the beautiful Legacy Garden, which, after our remodel, now holds a prominent location behind the dining hall. This serene space, featuring a white pergola, graceful Japanese maples, flowers, and benches, offers a peaceful retreat for students and staff. Mrs. Leslie McLeod continues to care for the garden, ensuring it remains a place of respite and beauty.
These are just a few highlights of the tremendous impact the McLeod family has had on our Walton community. The Foundation is collaborating with Mrs. McLeod on repairs and continued beautification of the Legacy Garden. We are deeply grateful to the McLeod family for their ongoing support of Walton High School.
